The Senatore Cappelli is one of the most important and best-known of the ancient Italian grasses. It was bred at the beginning of the 20th century by Nazareno Strampelli, an Italian grain researcher. The variety is named after Senator Raffaele Cappelli, who provided extensive financial support for the project. Until the 60s, Senatore Cappelli was one of the most popular types of durum wheat in Italy. Senatore Cappelli is characterized by its intense scent and special taste.
